Adaptive Physical Education

Designed by our K-12 Adapted Physical Education teachers, this program engages and inspires, increasing students' opportunities to explore and practice different types of movement, including basic and creative movement, rhythm and dance, games (ex: tag, scooter games, tossing games), catching, throwing, jumping, and balancing, as well as swimming, mini-golf, and cycling, to name a few.

By participating, students develop an increased awareness and curiosity about the importance of movement and physical fitness. They also strengthen and build their muscle coordination and balance, as well as their stamina and endurance. For students with us throughout their K-12 experience, skills are built on year after year, fostering muscle memory and supporting positive physical and mental health outcomes.

Program activities and adaptive physical education classes occur in our gymnasiums, weight room, swimming pool, bowling alley, mini-golf course, and fully accessible playgrounds. We also have several tandem bikes for students to use during the warmer months.

We also seek partnerships with organizations that provide physical fitness activities for the blind and visually impaired. Past Adaptive Physical Education Program Partners/Clinics include (for ease of screen readers, the organization's below are listed alphabetically, followed by a link to the organization's website):
