South Street Seaport Museum engages visitors in the maritime history of New York City and provides on-the-water education aboard its historic schooners. Thanks to a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, they have developed and implemented a program about the Hudson River Estuary. The Museum has consciously devised a multi-sensory program using teaching materials that students could touch, smell, hear, and in some cases, taste.
