Student Wellness Works Fund

Donations to the Institute help build our blind and visually impaired students' independence and knowledge of the world on- and off-campus through a roster of dynamic programming. Central to these efforts is our Student Wellness Works Program, offering enrichment activities in-school and after-school, as well as during the extended school year. 

Current programming made possible in part through the support of individuals like you include:

In-School Activities 

• Our Where Are They Now Speaker Series featuring Institute Alum.
• Assemblies, workshops, and guest speaker presentations.
• Internships, apprenticeships, and career training opportunities
• Starlight & Co., a student-run entrepreneurship business.
• Student Ambassador Program.
• Residency Programming. 
• STEAM field trips.

After-School Activities 

• Tutoring
• Team and Individual Sports

In participating in these programs, students have opportunities to:

• compensate for their decreased opportunities to learn incidentally by observing others;
• build their social-emotional learning and executive functioning skills, and
• explore new opportunities they may not otherwise have access to.

Note: In addition to the Student Wellness Works Program for Schermerhorn students, Readiness Program teachers, childcare workers, and therapeutic recreational specialists plan and supervise various activities to support our pre-schoolers with developmental delays.
