Wanaqua Campers Enjoy Basketball Week

Kym Hampton at the assemby

It was a busy week for the campers of Camp Wanaqua. The theme for the week was basketball. The week started with a trip to a New York Liberty basketball game. The campers of Camp Wanaqua had an exciting afternoon. They traveled to Madison Square Garden for a matinee game of the New York Liberty. They witnessed a terrific game by star center Tina Charles as she lead the team with 28 points and 17 rebounds to soundly defeat the Connecticut Sun 96-80.

Later in the week, they created ceramic plaques many with a basketball team. They had a great time painting and designing their projects.

On Thursday, they had a privilege of hosting WNBA legend Kym Hampton. She’s a terrific motivational speaker and the entire student body of the school attended the assembly. It was the second time she has come to the school and her visits are always a thrill for the students. During her first visit, she presented awards to our student athletes at our Sports Awards Night. NYISE field teams in bowling, swimming, track and field, wrestling, goalball and cheerleading and three basketball teams.
