The Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association (SGA) is an opportunity for students to elect their peers as community leaders to design and implement student-led programming at the Institute.

An opportunity for students to develop leadership skills and promote positive action by and for students, SGA Officers are elected by their peers in June and take office at the beginning of the school year. SGA Executive Officers then meet throughout the school year to discuss programming and activities under the guidance of a Faculty Advisor and with the support of the Institute's staff.

We extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all who have held an Executive Officer role and are proud of what they have accomplished as a community leader.

Student Wellness Works Workshop (5/4/23)

With funding from our Student Wellness Works Program, the SGA presented a workshop hosted by Richard Anthony Celestin, Esq, an attorney out of NY who runs a youth empowerment organization that provides workshops to schools in the tristate area.

During this workshop, Mr. Celestin addressed ways to help students deal with adversity; overcoming life's obstacles and challenges; develop a strong success mentality to help achieve any goal set, and learn the skills needed to achieve a successful career in a field of their choosing.

Student Wellness Works is made possible through a generous grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. Named after a tireless advocate for immigrants, children, and the poor, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation funds programs and initiatives across New York State that either provide direct healthcare services or address the social determinants of health. Annual Easter Event (4/5/23)

Each year, the SGA hosts an event in our gymnasium to kick off that start of spring with games and activities for our K-12 students. Annual favorites include Giant Jenga, an egg hunt, egg race, and easter toss. Snacks and refreshments are for sale, and activity booths are led by volunteering students and staff.

Kindness Week (February 2022)

The SGA hosted Kindness Week in 2022 by asking students to complete a list of kind acts inspired by The Great Kindness Challenge. At the end of the week, students met together to discuss what being kind means to them. Click here for a video capturing some of their responses. SGA Community Service and Philanthropy in Action

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) 3-mile Fundraising Walk (10/6/23)
Hosted by the SGA, students and staff walked together to raise funds for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Foundation. Walking here on our campus or virtually, all students had opportunities to encourage and support our walkers with on-campus Public Service Announcements and by creating flyers, posters, and pamphlets to display on campus. Each participant was recognized on our Wall of Honor with a paper baseball and participant name.

Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraising Event (10/25/23)

Hosted by the SGA, our Breast Cancer Awareness Event was for students and staff and raised funds for cancer care and research.

Clothing and Food Donation Drive (11/13/23 - 11/17/23)

Hosted by the SGA, students and staff collected clothing, canned food and dry goods donations to give to local groups serving those in need.
