Church of Intersession

Starting in 1910, The Church of the Intercession has celebrated the holidays with a special program featuring a reading of "The Night Before Christmas" written by Clement C. Moore.

As part of this annual event, select Schermerhorn students perform under the direction of our Musical Director Naum Shulman, joining a roster of performances that attract hundreds of audience members each year. Following the reading there is a lantern procession and wreath-laying at the tomb of Clement C. Moore at the Trinity Church Cemetery and Mausoleum. The school also has a small plot in the cemetery for students that died during cholera epidemics in the 19th century.

Moore was a member of the Institute's school board from 1840-1850. To learn more about his work visit our Distinguished Alumni page by following this internal link: https://www.nyise.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=431301&type=d&pREC_ID=939024
