Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

It was a chilly, windy, rainy day for our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. The weather did not dampen our spirits. The students and staff took to the gymnasium track to walk for miles in support of the cause. Cupcakes and snacks were sold to raise additional funds.

Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj came to give us his support and thank the students for their participation.

The day ended with very touching moments with the family of Justin Bryant (2001-2016). This beloved Schermerhorn student recently passed, but his brief life left his mark on many of us. Unfortunately much of the time he spent with us was filled with many health challenges, but we remember him as a young man with smiles and positive energy.

One of his essays was displayed challenging us all; He wrote, “I challenge you to go and touch the lives of others in the same way that I have tried to touch yours. Inspire others to achieve the unachievable and never give up.”

Many members of his family joined the NYISE family to dedicate a bench for the campus grounds and a tree was planted in his honor that will forever remind us of this blessed soul.
