Today Group 2 read our Science Spin magazine about Tusquantum, a Wampanoag Indian who the Pilgrims how to grow corn, beans and squash together. Some Native Americans called these plants the Three Sisters.

We had a multi-sensory experience, exploring different kinds of squash (butternut squash, kabocha squash and spaghetti squash) and corn. We learned about how beans grow in a pod. We opened up a pod of snowpeas to understand better how beans grow. We went to the coffee shop to prepare our squash for baking. We examined the squash seeds and prepared corn on the cob for cooking. It smelled so good while everything was cooking. We later got to taste the corn and different kinds of squash. The spaghetti squash was fun to eat! We had a wonderful experience and learned a lot of new information.

Photographer: Edie Goldman
