Our recreation staff provides each afternoon and evening a wide variety of rich recreational experiences. In this photoblog, you will see our residential students hiking through Van Cortlandt Park with a park tour guide learning about the science of the fall season. The students also went to a farm to get apples for preparing apple crisp and caramel apples.

The expanded core curriculum, we use at NYI, tells us that students need to develop recreational and leisure activities that they can enjoy throughout their adult lives. Blind and visually impaired students need to be exposed to recreation and leisure skills by having them deliberately planned and taught to focus on the development of life-long skills. Our recreation staff does a fine job fostering these goals.

Photographer: Frances Mclaughlin
