Science Program

A highlight of our Science Program is our annual Science Fair, which provides our elementary, middle and high school students with the opportunity to present and discuss their science projects with peers and teachers. Additionally, student's families and caregivers and students from other schools that serve the blind and visually impaired community can attend the Science Fair to learn from students' presentations and share ideas and feedback.

These experiences spark students' curiosity about how science impacts their daily lives on campus and at home, planting the seeds for future study and lifelong learning.

This year, we were thrilled to also have three science projects on display during the fair for our Readiness preschoolers who were delighted to be involved and become a scientist for the day.

Science instruction is guided by the New York State (NYS) Music Learning Standards, accessible by visiting the NYS Education Department's website at https://www.nysed.gov/standards-instruction/science.

2025 Science Fair: The Science of Food

Each year, students and teachers work with a theme for the Science Fair, reflecting students' interests and curiosity.

Over several weeks, students work in groups with their teachers to design and complete their projects on Trifold backboards that share each project's title, hypothesis, materials used, scientific procedure, results, and conclusion.

All projects are then displayed in the gymnasium for students, peers, teachers, family, caregivers, and visitors from our community on the day of the Science Fair.

Visiting this year, 12 students and 5 staff members from the St. Joseph School for the Blind in New Jersey visited this year.

This year, several preschoolers from the Readiness Program also visited the Science Fair to share their science projects, incorporating hands-on activities for all and bringing smiles to participants.
