Welcome to the Readiness Program

The Readiness Program is a full-day, center-based preschool program for children ages 3 to 5, who reside in the Bronx, and are visually impaired or display one of the following:

  • Adaptive Developmental Delays
  • Cognitive, Speech, and/or Language Delays
  • Fine and/or Gross Motor Skill Delays
  • Sensory Integration Delays
  • Social-Emotional Development Delays
  • Visual Impairments/Blindness

All preschoolers have been referred to the program through their local Committee on Preschool Special Education. Admission is on a rolling basis, with students entering the program in September.

A supportive and nurturing environment, children are grouped in small classes with a teacher and two teacher assistants, and services are provided onsite as mandated in each student's Individual Education Program (IEP).

Current Support Services include:

  • Assistive Technology
  • Bilingual Services
  • Counseling
  • Mobility Training
  • Occupational
  • Physical and Speech Therapy
  • Special Education Busing.

Readiness staff believe that young children, regardless of their disability, learn when they are fully participating and interacting with people and their environment. Monthly themes are woven into the curricula along with music activities and fun hands-on learning opportunities.

Whether watching chicks hatch, competing in tricycle races or creating artwork, the children are provided with learning experiences that reinforce basic concepts and skills.

Readiness staff work closely with families and offer parent training and support groups to assist families in advocating for their child's educational needs. Additionally, monolingual and bilingual groups meet regularly with a social worker who facilitates the meetings.

With questions regarding admissions, the Turning 5 Process, or to request a tour, parents can call Dina Sanabria at 718-519-7000 Ext 8550.

If arranging a tour, it is highly recommended that parents bring any paperwork with them, including the CPSE recommendations, at the time of their visit.
