National Blind Sports Day is a celebration across the U.S. showcasing the abilities, opportunities and awareness of sports for the blind.
InTandem came to NYISE to give our students rides and educate them about opportunities to ride tandem bikes around Central Park.
At NYISE, we provide our students with a broad spectrum of sports both competitive and recreational. The Schermerhorn Program fields teams that compete in the Eastern Athletic Association for the Blind (EAAB) with tournaments in wrestling, goalball, cheerleading, track, swimming and bowling. Two basketball teams compete in a local Catholic school league.
Our Residential and Recreational departments bring wellness activities like tennis, rock climbing, archery, volleyball and hiking to our residents. This year, we will be introducing golf.
One of our recent graduates, Shavon Lockhardt, just competed in the Parapan Olympic games in the sport of goalball in Peru and will be with the national team at the 2020 ParaOlympic Games in Japan.
