Youth Employment Strategies (YES) Program

We recently took our final Youth Employment Strategies (YES) Program trip for the Dress for Success program. The students of the Y.E.S! program learned about jobs at JCPenney, received access to their training headquarters and had the opportunity to meet the Manager.

Then the fun began! The students went shopping for business appropriate clothing for their upcoming interviews.

We are very grateful to the attention given to our students by the staff of JCPenney. Their personal shoppers helped our students truly dress for success. The clothes were purchased by Helen Keller Services, who facilitated the YES Program at the Institute.

As a follow-up to the JC Penny trip, our 11th and 12th graders took part in practice interviews with the staff from Helen Keller Services and Visions. This has been a very productive and educational experience thank you to everyone, that made this possible.

In addition to mastering job development techniques, students receive intensive PC based technology instruction and learn how to maximize the use of assistive software such as JAWS and ZoomText. These softwares boost student competitiveness in a demanding job market.

Dr. Bernadette Kappen, our Executive Director says of the program. "A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made these experiences possible! Through your hard work and commitment, the Helen Keller Services YES program is building our students knowledge of potential career paths and providing them with the tools they need to secure an internship or job that is often the first step to a promising career."
