Community: Parent Groups and Training Sessions

Black and white painting of Frampton Hall.
Parent Groups and Training Sessions are organized by our Social Work Department and foster a community and knowledge-based network for parents and guardians of Readiness preschoolers for a period of up to two years.

Led by our highly trained and experienced teachers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and school psychologists, group discussions address topics that build on parents' existing skills, sharing best practices in child development and the process of securing services for their child here in the Bronx.

Participation is encouraged and voluntary, and offers the opportunity to gain additional skills and knowledge, both key to understanding a child's specific needs and how to secure the best supports and services for children with developmental delays.

Parent Groups and Training Session topics include:
  • Education: The Turning 5 Process
  • Milestones: Toilet Training
  • Services: New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
  • Social Emotional Learning: Understanding the ABCs of Behavior Management
  • Speech Development: Language and Communication at Home

Parents attend a workshop with School Psychologists, Dr. Karen Schlichting and Dr. Renee Badami.
