Community: Parent Groups and Training Sessions

Black and white painting of Frampton Hall.

Our Social Work Department organizes Parent Groups and Training Sessions twice a month from October to May. Topics covered include:

  • Education: The Turning 5 Process
  • Milestones: Toilet Training
  • Services: New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
  • Social Emotional Learning: Understanding the ABCs of Behavior Management
  • Speech Development: Language and Communication at Home

Fostering a knowledge-based network for parents and guardians for up to two years, discussions build on parents' existing skills, sharing best practices in child development and the process of securing services for their child here in the Bronx.

Presented in Frampton Hall, social workers lead parent groups, and our highly trained and experienced teachers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and school psychologists lead training sessions.

Participation is encouraged and offers the opportunity to gain additional skills and knowledge, both key to understanding a child's specific needs and how to secure the best supports and services for children with developmental delays.

Parents attend a workshop with School Psychologists, Dr. Karen Schlichting and Dr. Renee Badami.
