Family-School Connections

Our Family-School Connection events are designed to foster stronger connections between families and the classroom by welcoming parents and guardians to Frampton Hall to see our learning spaces, and engage in themed activities alongside their children, deepening their understanding of how to support their child's educational journey.

With approximately 124 preschoolers enrolled in the program each year, our Family School Connection events reach approximately 248 parents and guardians, helping to build a sense of community amongst students and families that can carry forward as students transition to kindergarten or a more supportive learning environment after they turn five.

Welcoming back our preschoolers and parents, our first Family-School Connection event is Parent Orientation Day, providing parents and caregivers with the opportunity to meet their child's teachers and ask questions about what and how their children will learn in our classrooms, as well as how they can support their little learners best at home.

During this year's event a special focus was on activities and teaching methods designed to support preschoolers development of social emotional and fine motor-skills.

What this looks like in practice can be teachers using hand puppets to model conversation skills, picture prompts to provide sequential directions to help the children understand what they are expected to do for an activity, and providing students with sensory friendly finger paints, scissors and glue to help them develop, strengthen and build fine motors skills.

All these skills are integral to ensuring students are ready and able to the fullest extent possible to enter kindergarten when they turn five.

Learning for preschoolers and parents doesn't stop at the end of the school day, it is continuous throughout the evenings, early mornings, and weekends.

To support parents at home, our Parent Educational Training Program begins in October with School Social Workers leading parent groups, covering topics such as community resources, the Turning Five process, the use of visuals, and toilet training. This program continues twice a month throughout the school year and is held in Frampton Hall.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are also held at the end of the month to continue conversations between parents/guardians and their child’s Teacher, Related Service provider, Social Worker, and/or Psychologist. While all of this takes place behind the scenes, Readiness students gear up to celebrate the change of seasons with our annual Fall Festival filled with sensory friendly fun.

Celebrating Literacy, this month's events included Read Across America Family Read-Aloud sessions that created meaningful moments of shared reading through guided read-a-loud sessions and engaging literacy activities for students, as well as a visit with Assemblyman John Zaccaro, Jr., who read Go, Dogs, Go to students, and talked with staff, families, and parents about the importance of Literacy at every stage of life.
