Family-School Connections

Our Family-School Connection events foster stronger connections between families and the classroom by welcoming parents and guardians to see our learning spaces, and engage in themed activities alongside their children, deepening their understanding of how to support their child's educational journey.

With approximately 124 preschoolers annually enrolled in the program, events reach over 200 parents and guardians, helping build a sense of community that can carry forward as students transition to kindergarten or a more supportive learning environment after they turn five.

September: Welcome Back - Bienvenido de nuevo

Parent Orientation Day provides new and returning parents and caregivers with the opportunity to:

see their child's classroom;
meet their child's teachers and related service providers, and
ask questions about what and how their child will learn throughout the year.

A special focus is on sharing information about the teaching methods used to support the development of social emotional and fine motor-skills, as well as demonstrate instructional methods that help parents support their little learners best at home.

What this looks like in practice includes:

using hand puppets to model conversation skills;
picture prompts to provide sequential directions;
invitations to explore sensory aware activities, including finger painting, using scissors, tape, and glue.

October: Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences continue conversations between parents/guardians and their child’s Teacher, Related Service provider, Social Worker, and/or Psychologist.

During individual conferences, parents can expect to learn about:

their child's progress, including challenges and opportunities in learning
what they can do at home to help their child, including reading and playing; and
if appropriate, how to pursue additional services for their child outside of those received in the classroom.

Read Across America Family events take place throughout the month, creating meaningful moments of shared reading and literacy activities for students about the importance of literacy at every stage of life.
