Throughout the month of February, the children and staff of Readiness have been celebrating Black History Month. Each class focused on a famous African American inventor and recreated their inventions. There was also a traveling basket circulating from class to class with various fruits and vegetables indigenous to African American culture.
On February 26, 2009, two dancers, Samantha and Princess, provided the children of Readiness with African dance history and a dance presentation. They presented a traditional African Story, The Griot’s Gift, and engaged our students with African drumming and dance.
In the Readiness Program. each class was provided with materials to make an edible traffic light as a Black History month activity honoring the inventor, Garrett Morgan. These are the pictures of Class F participating in the construction and consumption of the edible traffic lights.
