Thank you for your interest in supporting NYISE.
We believe every contribution matters and every contributor matters.
Supported by NYISE's Garden Fund, our Green Gardens Program provides students with educational opportunities in partnership with nature centers and local nonprofit organizations; field trips to local gardens and farms, and the purchase of seeds, garden tools, plants, and more for all of our gardens on campus.
The mission of NYISE’s Green Gardens Program is to strengthen our student's understanding of their natural environment and its impact on their communities and society at large through hands-on learning in our gardens and greenhouse.
Our goals for the program over the next three years (2019-2021) are to provide hands-on activities for students to grow, harvest, and eat their own produce; explore native and non-native flora, and provide students with plants to take home and grow in their own gardens.
An integral part of our K-12 science curriculum, our garden and greenhouse are used throughout the academic year by our Schermerhorn students to study plant life-cycles, learn about the origins of their food and the importance of eating a well-balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables.
Our Van Cleve students also use the gardens and, this year, started their own indoor garden to grow produce through the coming winter months.
