On February 5th, Schermerhorn K-12 students and staff participated and celebrated Black History, culture, and community by attending a performance by Asase Yaa which means "Mother Earth." Yao, who started the Foundation, visited us along with other drummers and dancers and everyone in attendance experienced African and African Diasporic Dance and Drumming with a focus on African, Caribbean, and African-American history and cultural art forms. Students listened and sang to music, danced, and clapped to the beats of music and drumming.
