January was Braille Literacy Month and our students celebrated by participating in various activities such as Audio Bingo, Brailling a Birthday Cake using a Braille Writer, Braille Bookmark Making, a Braille Word Building Relay, and Contraction Games. Each class began working on how to illustrate “A Visit From St. Nicholas”, also known as “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” by Clement C. Moore, 1882, who was a Board Member at the New York Institute. Besides being in large print and braille, students in each class are working on designing tactile images to go along with the story. Students and staff ended by decorating and enjoying cupcakes to celebrate Louie Braille’s birthday!
