Van Cleve 1 celebrated International Pi Day (3.14) by measuring various circles in the Van Cleve hallway. They learned how to use a ruler and a yardstick to find the diameter and the radii of each circle. They practiced using their calculators and used the different formulas to calculate the circumference and/or area of each. It was a wonderful learning experience. The students enjoyed getting out of the classroom and participating in a "fun" math class! Afterwards, to continue the celebration, the class enjoyed a "Pi"... a pizza pie that is, as a nice treat!
