Ms. Jessica's junior English classes had the opportunity to attend a guided tour at the Museum of Jewish Heritage - A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. Students were immersed in the time line leading up to World War II by listening videos, viewing artifacts, and touching replicas of such artifacts. The students then had the opportunity to listen to the accounts of a survivor of the Holocaust, George Bear. Mr. Bear, originally from Zloczow, Poland, where his father was a director of a meat-exporting company, and his mother was a bacteriologist. When Zloczow was invaded by the German's in 1941, his father was killed the first week, and Mr. Bear and his mother were able to escape to Warsaw, Poland and "pass" as Aryans until liberation. After a short period of time in a Displaced Persons camp, they left as refugees and arrived in the US in 1946. Photographer: Jessica Hurley
