The Bronx Music Heritage Center honored Living Legend Valerie Capers<br> at the Hostos Center for the Arts &amp; Culture on November 20th, 2012.<br><br>She attended NYI and went on to study classical music at Julliard and became the first blind person to earn a B.S. and an M.S. She went on to have a career as a jazz pianist and perform with Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Max Roach, Pacquito D'Rivera, and Wynton Marsalis, and released five critically acclaimed albums. The Bronx Tourism Council recently inducted her to the Bronx Walk of Fame.
