      • The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Issues as a
        W3C HTML 4.0 Recommendation.
        They also support the Web Accessibility Initiative [WAI]
        which has prepared the Unified Web Site Accessibility Guidelines.


    7. Vendor Updates


      • Braille Relief (tactile graphics) from Braille Planet (formerly Raised Dot Computing). This add-on to version 2.0 puts the product Pictac (from Personal Data Systems) into MegaDots; it scans an image and turns it into a tactile graphic to insert into your MegaDots file. Cost is $100, requires version 2.0. of Megadots
      • New Release of ZoomText Xtra v6.03 by Ai Squared. Level 1 is an advanced screen magnifier and Level 2 offers a fully integrated magnifier and screen reader  designed specifically for the low-vision computer user. AiSquared announces also version 6.1 of ZoomText Xtra. is planned for January 1998 and will include:
        • Improved screen reading;
        • International speech support;
        • Built-in synthesizers for French, German, Italian and spanish.
      • JBliss Imaging Systems announces new releases of VIPinfoNet: a highly configurable Low Vision Internet Browser and VIPinfoSoft is a is a complete reading system
      • Simply Internet has integrated internet utilities such as a Winsock Dialer, a Telnet client and an E-mail client for windows which are both speech friendly and speech enabled.

      • Visually Impaired Computer Users Group of New York City (VICUG-NYC) meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the The Associated Blind building, which is located at 135 West Twenty-third Street (between Sixth and Seventh Avenues) in New York City.
