    1. New at the 'TUTE

      • We have expanded and updated our New York State Information Page which is now also available in large print.
      • Our noted alumnus and famous hymnist Fanny Crosby's Pages has an expanded biography called "Songbird in the Dark". This bio originally was printed in Outlook of the Blind in 1932.
      • Virtual Visit of the Blindness Resource Center: A presentation on the website will be made at ISTE's Sixth International Conference on Telecommunications and Multimedia in Education in November in Austin, Texas.

      • Blind RAP is a worldwide virtual community of the blind. We have links to over 100 personal homepages of the blind worldwide. Homepages may be viewed alphabetically, regionally, or by eye condition. Resumes and profiles are posted as a free service for the blind.
      • BOBBY: is a free web-based service that will help you make web pages accessible to people with disabilities. It will also find HTML compatibility problems that prevent pages from displaying correctly on different web browsers.
      • Convert-O-Braille: They do research and development, Braille transcription and sell software packages for transcription of text or music to Braille.
      • The latest 28 Project Gutenberg Etexts and a listing of many of their WWW and FTP mirror sites.
      • Information Technologies and Disabilities - September 1997 is a Electronic journal published regularly by Equal Access to Software and Information (EASI). The archive of previous editions is available.
      • New Speech Technology: Listen2 Text Reader/Talker Now you can listen to text files, electronic books, web pages, Email, and clipboard text from within other Windows applications. Hear your daily reminders or appointments. Listen to motivational messages, speeches, or jokes that you create by pressing a key. It's available in 5 different languages (English, German, Italian, Spanish and French.
      • The Maryland Member of the Alliance For Technology Access is a network of community-based resource centers dedicated to providing information and support services to children and adults with disabilities, and increasing their use of standard, assistive, and information technologies. Centers can be found all across the country.
      • The Narrative Television Network makes movies and television programming accessible to blind and visually impaired people through narration, an "extra" voice added to the show to describe the visual elements of the story.

      • JAWS for Windows 3.0 The Best Screen Reader For Windows 95 released by Henter-Joyce. There is an unofficial listserv for networking with other users of JFW at the JFW mailing list home page
      • Listen2 Speech Technology: a Text to Speech program that will read any web page, email, or text file using a female or a male voice. And it's available in 5 different languages.

      • Visually Impaired Computer Users Group of New York City (VICUG-NYC) meets on the second Monday of every month at the Associated Blind building, which is located at 135 West Twenty-third Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, in New York City.
