Track Facts

Hi! My name is Christopher and I am a student at the New York Institute for Special Education. Like many of my team members I am totally blind. I am here to discuss the differences between our track team and a regular track team. Before we go any further, please note that these differences apply to all special education schools.

One of the most obvious differences is that the participants on a regular track team use their eyes as a guide. Because we are visually impaired, we must rely on our remaining 4 senses.

The following is a list of some other differences:

  1. 50 Yard Dash: Unlike a regular Dash Track, our track has guide wires. Just As the term "guide wires" suggests, these wires are used, by blind and visually impaired people, as a guide. Because these wires are there, a blind or visually impaired person can go from one end of the track to the other without any difficulties.
  2. Mile Tandom This event does not exist on a regular track team. What is the Mile Tandom? It is basically two people doing the Mile run.

Aside from these differences, everything else is just the same.
