“Too often we are scared, scared of what we might not be able to do, scared of what people might think if we tried, we let our fears stand in the way of our hopes. Why? There's really no time to be afraid. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Everything!”

The students learned how to truly challenge themselves during this trip. Instructor Sparks taught them how to safely climb and about the equipment. They each had to climb up the wall and then repel back down to safety. This trip was conducted by our therapeutic recreation staff. Their objective is to expose students to community based leisure activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.

The North Meadow Recreation Center (NMRC), has a cushioned climbing room with a 20-foot climbing wall; a community room used for classes, gatherings, and recreational activities; basketball and handball courts, and an outdoor 25-foot climbing wall.  Staff use a variety of approaches to encourage fitness and self-esteem among the elementary, middle school, and high school students who participate in NMRC programs. Our free or low-cost courses are coordinated with local schools and community board organizations.  Weekend climbing is also available.
