Demo by Humanware outside the coffeeshop of the Mountbatten Brailler by Managing Director of Quantum, Tim Connell. Later in the day there will be short workshop on using the brailler/embosser to teach Braille literacy and its curriculum materials for interested teachers in the Annex.

  • Serotek Corporation is introducing a program today that will put blind children on the same page with their sighted peers --  giving them the ability to use a computer anytime, anywhere, with help from Keys for K-12 (kk12.) Keys for K-12 is a free license to carry the System Access Mobile capabilities on a portable thumb drive.  With the SA Mobile Software, your student can plug his or her flash drive into any computer, anywhere, and have instant access -- through text-to-speech and/or magnification -- to all Windows-based applications already there.

  • Humanware states that the Trekker Breeze, its simpler GPS product for the blind is now shipping and the 2 we have on order should be in soon. Leader Dogs is testing the usability of this product as an adjunct to its training. You will be able to read blogs of students and instructors starting on the 18th of November.http://www.leaderdog.org/breeze/

  • NATURE TEACHER'S PACKAGE
    For middle school students, THIRTEEN/WNET NEW YORK have produced a NATURE Teacher's Package including a teacher's guide, poster, and complete DVD of the fascinating program "Crash: A Tale of Two Species." The program looks at the dwindling population of the red knot bird as the result of a sharp decrease in the horseshoe crab. The program and accompanying materials examine what can be done to help the fates of these intertwined species. Teachers who receive the package will be asked to report on its use. To request the teacher's package, please email: guiderequest@thirteen.org. Subject line: Nature Teacher's Package. Please include your name, institution, course(s) the materials will be used in, and your mailing address. Supplies are limited.
