WFW is available free of charge via Internet e-mail or fax. As part of this new service, you will periodically receive "Words from Washington," while Congress is in session. WFW is a brief report on what's happening in Washington with frequent analysis of how developments in Washington affect individuals who are blind or visually impaired and the professionals who serve them. WFW is generally no more than two or three pages in length and is presented in a highly readable newspaper-like style format. WFW is not a complete Congressional Record or Federal Register tracking service, and is not intended as a vehicle to provide in-depth articles regarding legislative or regulatory matters affecting the blindness community. In addition, from time to time you may also receive alerts and updates on current federal legislation and other governmental developments of interest to individuals who are blind and the organizations who serve them. Alerts will briefly outline the problem, tell you what advocates are doing about it and suggest ways in which you can be involved. Some of the issue areas we will cover are appropriations and budget, civil rights, education, employment and rehabilitation, health care, Social Security, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. The subject and timing will be based on current activities in Congress or Executive Branch agencies. You are encouraged to reprint or redistribute WFW and alerts, but we would appreciate your crediting AFB as the source of any information used. Keep in mind that legislative activity is fast paced, and information published today may be out of date tomorrow. Our previous legislative information service, the AFB Information Network, has been discontinued. To receive "Words from Washington" free of charge, published while Congress is in session, and delivered quickly to your Internet e-mail box or fax machine, please complete the enclosed subscription form. Internet e-mail versions of WFW and alerts are presented in a 73 column, plain text format easily read by all screen readers. If you have any questions about the content of WFW or our alerts, please contact Barbara LeMoine of the AFB Governmental Relations Group, 202-457-1497 or e-mail afbgov@afb.org. The mission of the American Foundation for the Blind is to enable persons who are blind or visually impaired to achieve equality of access and opportunity that will ensure freedom of choice in their lives. AFB accomplishes this mission by taking a national leadership role in the development and implementation of public policy and legislation, informational and educational programs, and quality services. ------------cut here-------------------------------------------------- Words from Washington Subscription Form Mail or fax to: Barbara LeMoine American Foundation for the Blind Governmental Relations Group 1615 M Street, N.W., Suite 250 Washington, DC 20036 Voice: 202-457-1497 Fax: 202-457-1492 Internet E-mail: afbgov@afb.org Please deliver "Words from Washington," free of charge, published periodically while Congress is in session, directly to my Internet e-mail box or fax machine.
