The New York Institute for Special Education (NYISE) encourages family members to visit throughout the year. In addition to family members, the Institute is also visited by representatives of agencies that are involved in a student's education. Institute endeavors to keep formal regulation to a minimum, but has established procedures to ensure the safety, welfare and privacy of all students attending the Institute. Social Workers are available in each program to act as a liaison with all families.

Visitation rights are afforded to each child's legal guardians and to other family members as designated by the legal guardians. In cases where parents are divorced or separated, these rights apply to both parents except where documented legal restrictions exist.

The Institute encourages ongoing communication with families and will accommodate school visits as much as it does not interfere with the daily educational programming. Family members are encouraged to make appointments to visit their children at school.
