The students learned that some snakes can be very shy and gentle. When a Ball Python feels threatened it will tuck it's body into a tight ball and hide it's head in the center.
The students learned that Ball Pythons have very poor vision and hearing and use heat pits located by it's mouth to sense the body heat of it's prey. The students discovered that snakes are not slimy at all, but rather have a leather-like texture. This is from the scales that cover it's body for protection and to keep moisture within the body. Snakes are not like us and are cold-blooded, rather than warm-blooded. Instead of using food for energy, reptiles use the warmth from the sun for energy.
