The New York Institution for the Blind circa 1872


This woodcut used on the cover of several annual reports is based on
the previous 1870 photograph. The artist removed many distracting
elements such as telephone poles and added the horse drawn trolly.
The trolly that ran on 34th Street was known as the "Green Line"
which took persons to the ferry at West 42nd Street
