News From Our Art Department

By Jason Laracuente, Schermerhorn Art Teacher

This year the Art Department submitted 35 works of art to the Annual APH Art Contest created by Schermerhorn students.  This year the contest’s theme was figurative language. Each student selected a popular figure of speech and depicted its “saying” in their work.  Of the 35 entries, six were selected to be on display in the Art Show that will take place during APH’s Annual Conference in October 2009.  One of our students’ work was awarded third place.  We congratulate Erick Rosso for winning third place in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade division. The students’ artwork selected to be in the show also include Jessica Ocana, Brandohn Gabbert, Nicholas Acosta, Jasmine Robertson, and Maria Morel.  We are very proud of all 35 Schermerhorn students that enthusiastically participated and sent their entries.  You are winners!

The Art Department is looking forward to submit even more student artwork next year. We now proudly present to all our readers the gallery of artwork submitted to APH.  Enjoy it!
