This year the Schermerhorn and Van Cleve programs took part in a celebration of Hispanic Heritage.  On Thursday, April 30th, Mrs. Mayra McCarthy from Schermerhorn and Dr. Franklin Raddock from Van Cleve gave a multi-media presentation on Flamenco Dance and Music. 

Included in the presentation was information about the historical and cultural origins of Flamenco, as well as questions and answers and exercises to assist the students in learning about this wonderful topic. 

Then, on May 1st the Van Cleve and Schermerhorn programs were treated to a marvelous dance recital and demonstration about Flamenco presented by Flamenco y Sol—a world famous dance ensemble, directed by Glenda “Sol” Koeraus.  Performing with “Sol” were Jose Moreno (percussionist), Christian Puig (guitar, singer) and Erika Valero (Dancer). 

These performers have performed in Spain, the Metropolitan Opera and all over the world.  Simply put, the show was fabulous and a grand time was had by all!
